Mei Greer

Mei Greer was born in China during the Cultural Revolution and raised in Hong Kong from the age of 10. Mei says, “Growing up in Hong Kong gave me a deep appreciation for freedom of expression, freedom to create, and the freedom to simply be myself.”

In her early 20s, Mei co-founded a metal recycling business with a partner who would later become her husband. She recalls, “I spent over a decade wandering through scrapyards around the world, and through my photography, I captured the unexpected beauty and character of scrap metal—where others saw junk or big business, I saw shape, color, story, and the fragments of life transformed through the cycle of renewal.”

In 2005, Mei stepped away from business to devote herself fully to family life. After a long, challenging, but determined journey, she and her husband were blessed with magical “new-age triplets”. Mei embraced motherhood completely, calling it “The most fulfilling chapter of my life!”

While Mei refers to herself as an “amateur artist,” art has been a thread through every chapter of her life. “I love the journey into the unknown—letting my hands follow my feelings to express emotion, capture beauty, and share how I process the world.” She works in painting, photography, mosaic, mixed media and digital art.

Mei has exhibited her work in various venues across Hong Kong and the U.S. One of her most memorable exhibitions was at the Southern Alleghenies Museum in the United States, where 50 of her scrap metal photographs were featured in a three-month solo show. In the past 10 years, she actively led collaborative art projects for annual school auctions, working with her children and over 30 classmates to create meaningful group pieces that successfully raised funds for their schools each year. Mei reflects, “I don’t pursue perfection. The process is the joy, and the fond memories are the true reward”

Her work reflects not only a passion for aesthetics, but also a deep belief in the continuity and transformation of life—through expression, creation, and staying true to herself. She continues to evolve.

My journey with Buddhism holds no extraordinary or remarkable experiences. Before retirement, life was defined by worldly routines. Now in tranquil retirement, a stable pension allows for a wholehearted devotion to Buddhist practice. Each morning begins with rituals and chanting. When faced with life's challenges, I reflect on how the Buddha would have responded in such situations during his time.

How would the World-Honored One guide his disciples and followers to live with joy and peace?

The Avatamsaka Sutra mentions: “The mind, the Buddha, and all living beings are fundamentally non-dual.”

This principle has become my life’s guideline. By regarding all beings as future Buddhas, as a disciple of the Buddha, my action is to align one's actions with the Buddha's teachings, allowing a compassionate Bodhi mind to naturally arise.

I am grateful and thankful to have studied painting under the guidance of Teacher, Ms. Ng, and participated in the "Formless Form" art exhibition at the Hong Kong City Hall from January 1 to 11, 2023, where my work was firstly displayed.

To me, Buddhism is a form of life wisdom. It’s not a distant scripture, but a daily reminder—how to face joy and sorrow, how to find peace within. It helps me stay calm in times of change, and clear in the midst of complexity.
Art is the same. The process of creating and appreciating art feels like a journey of exploration. Through the art, we can sense the subtle details of life, reflect on values, and in doing so, enrich our lives, uplift our spirit, and deepen our understanding of both the world and ourselves.

Quin

Born and raised in Hong Kong, Quin has nurtured her passion towards arts in her secondary age when she started to learn drawing from a prominent local artist. From polishing drawing skills to nourishing self-content temperament over the years, drawing has become an essential element of her life, in particular for rejuvenating herself through the search of a calm, peaceful and refreshed state of mind amid the restless living.

In recent years, Quin has focused her artworks on portrayal of human characters by capturing unique feelings and moments. What she finds more intriguing is the kind of spiritual and intimate connection attached between the characters and herself in the course of drawing. Filled with resplendent and interweaving colours, her artworks always emanate traces of glamour and delicacy.
